Peru hosts the meeting of Deputy Ministers of Finance of APEC

Lima, February 15, 2016.- Peru’s Deputy Minister of Economy Enzo Defilippi opened the meeting of Deputy Finance Ministers of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) today, the first of more than 180 meetings of this forum that will be held this year in Peru. This country becomes the host of the annual meetings of APEC for the second time in eight years.

This meeting is part of the Finance Ministers Process, a forum within APEC where member economies discuss about regional macroeconomic and financial situation, and priorities of domestic and regional economic policy. This process involves events such as the Meeting of Finance Ministers, the Meeting of Deputy Ministers of Finance and the Finance Senior Officials Meeting.

Highlighting the work done in the Process of Finance Ministers under the chairmanship of Philippines in 2015, Deputy Minister Enzo Defilippi said the agenda proposed by Peru in 2016 will continue with the development of the ‘Cebu Action Plan’ under the theme: “Strengthening Public Policy for an Integrated and Resilient Asia-Pacific Region; focusing on the improvement of regulatory frameworks for financial inclusion, catastrophic risk management and investment promotion.

The Cebu Action Plan is an initiative adopted by APEC members in 2015 aiming at to promoting economic and financial integration in the Asia-Pacific region, greater intra-regional trade and investment, more developed and inclusive financial markets, sustainable and inclusive growth and infrastructure development. "Peru will continue efforts to make the Cebu Action Plan a 10-year roadmap of the Process of Finance Ministers. Certainly, it has been one of the most ambitious proposals discussed in this forum, and one which requires coordinating common targets on a voluntary and non-binding basis", he said.

The meeting that begins today in Lima will congregate 120 participants, including deputy finance ministers and senior officials from the Ministries of Finance of the 21 member economies and authorities and delegations from various international organizations (World Bank, IMF, OECD, among others).

In late January, the President of the Republic of Peru, Ollanta Humala, inaugurated the Peruvian Presidency of APEC, which, under the slogan "Quality Growth and Human Development" will be held in this country throughout 2016. The 180 meetings that will be hosted include the 24th Leaders’ Summit, to be held in November, as well as eight ministerial meetings and a summit of business leaders, among other related events.
